What skills and experience we're looking for

We are seeking to appoint an experienced, skilled and highly inclusive teacher to join Brackenbury Primary School as part of the founding team of a new specialist SEND unit for up to 20 pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

The SEND unit will be explicitly underpinned by the SCERTS framework, with a strong focus on Social Communication, Emotional Regulation and Transactional Support, delivered through a nurturing, structured and highly personalised curriculum.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced practitioner with a strong commitment to SEND and inclusion, who is keen to play a key role in shaping high-quality specialist provision within a mainstream primary setting.

About the School

Brackenbury is a diverse and vibrant school that reflects the rich community it serves. We were graded Good by Ofsted (December 2022) and are committed to continuing to strengthen inclusive practice and high standards of teaching and learning.

Brackenbury is part of a Federation with Kenmont Primary and Wendell Park Primary Schools within the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. Staff benefit from close collaboration across the federation, shared expertise and joint professional development opportunities.

The Role

The successful candidate will take responsibility for teaching a small class within the ASD SEND unit, working closely with the AHT for Inclusion, specialist support staff and external professionals. You will lead on planning, delivering and evaluating a highly personalised curriculum that supports communication, learning, independence and emotional wellbeing.

You will play an important role in establishing strong routines, inclusive practice and a nurturing learning environment, and will contribute to the strategic development of the unit.

We are seeking to appoint someone who:

  • Is an experienced primary teacher
  • Has proven experience of teaching pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and/or complex SEND
  • Has a strong understanding of adaptive teaching, personalised learning and EHCP-led provision
  • Can plan learning that prioritises social communication, emotional regulation and functional skills
  • Understands the importance of adult–child interaction, co-regulation and environmental support
  • Is confident in leading learning with the support of HLTAs and support staff
  • Has excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Is reflective, resilient and committed to continuous improvement
  • Is ambitious for pupils with SEND and committed to securing positive outcomes
  • Can work collaboratively with families, colleagues and external agencies

What the school offers its staff

We offer:

  • The opportunity to be part of the founding team of a new ASD SEND unit
  • A creative, supportive environment that values inclusive practice and innovation
  • Enthusiastic, friendly children and a committed staff team
  • Strong leadership support and collaborative working across the federation
  • A high-quality CPD programme at school and borough level, with a strong SEND focus
  • Inner London Salary plus SEN Allowance
