SEND Teaching Assistant job summary

We are looking for a caring, patient and enthusiastic SEND Teaching Assistant to join our team and provide 1:1 support for a child with special educational needs.


We are looking to appoint a committed SEN support Assistant. We are seeking someone who has ambition and confidence, as well as wanting to develop their skills within a school. The role will involve working with pupils in our dedicated SEN space that require behavioural, educational or emotional support and supervising the children at lunchtime (30 mins per day).

Main purpose of role:

To assist and support pupils with special educational, social, emotional and behaviour difficulties.

To work under the instruction/guidance of senior/teaching staff to support the delivery of quality learning and teaching and to help raise standards of achievement for all pupils.

To work either in or out of the classrooms to support the child as directed by the class teacher, SENCo or member of senior leadership in order to meet the needs of specific children / groups of children.

In this role, you will work closely with the class teacher and SENDCo to support the child in achieving their Individual Education Plan (IEP) targets. You will help them access learning in the classroom, promote their independence, and support their social and emotional development.

The ideal candidate will:
  • Have experience working with children with special educational needs (desirable but not essential)

  • Be confident in supporting children with a range of learning and/or communication needs

  • Be able to build positive, nurturing relationships with pupils

  • Be a flexible and proactive team player

  • Be committed to promoting inclusion and high expectations for all learners
