SEND Teaching Assistant job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed applicant who has experience of working with children with specific needs to join our team at Springhill Primary Academy.
Our vision is to create a school where every child feels valued, respected and empowered to achieve. Through high expectations for all, inclusive practice and strong relationships, we ensure that every pupil, whatever their starting point, is supported to flourish academically, personally and socially, achieving outcomes that open doors to future success.
We are looking for a practitioner with the heart and skillset to work with some of our most vulnerable children. Due to our strong inclusive practice and local reputation, we have a number of children who have come to us in the very early stages of their educational development.
This role will be based within our Enhanced Provision and will involve supporting children who are non-verbal or in the early stages of language acquisition, and who are currently accessing learning through the Engagement Model. We are seeking someone who is patient, nurturing and highly responsive to children's individual needs; someone who understands that communication goes far beyond words and can celebrate and build upon the smallest steps of progress.
The successful candidate will work closely with teachers, external professionals, families and the Inclusion Lead to create meaningful learning experiences that develop communication, engagement, independence and social interaction. They will be committed to ensuring that every child is treated with dignity, kindness and unwavering belief in their potential.
Whether through sensory-based activities, play, communication systems such as Makaton, or carefully planned interactions, you will have the opportunity to make a profound difference to the lives of children who need exceptional adults to help them thrive.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed applicant who:
- has experience of working with children (essential) with specific needs in class, small groups and in 1:1 situations
- has English and Maths Grade C GCSE or equivalent (essential)
- has NVQ Level 2 (or above)
- is firm, kind, patient, consistent and approachable
- is friendly, ready to join in and engage with learning with the children
We would welcome applications from people who have experience in the following, although training would be available for the right candidates:
- Cognition & Learning
- Language & Social Interaction
- Autistic Spectrum Disorder
- Social Communication Difficulties
- Sensory Processing
