What skills and experience we're looking for
We are looking for an exceptional SENDCo to lead and drive inclusion across the primary phase of the Aylsham Learning Federation. The successful candidate will be passionate about making a difference, have a sound grasp of inclusive practice and a deep understanding of how children learn best within a consistent universal offer. You will have a proven track record of high expectations for all learners and the ability to stimulate children’s interest in learning, regardless of their starting point or barriers.
As our primary phase SENDCo, you will be our strategic lead for inclusion across the primary phase and will work in collaboration with other ALF colleagues across the federation including our secondary school. You will lead by example through your active presence in our learning environments. We are looking for an expert practitioner who is willing to step into classrooms to model and demonstrate best practice in action, providing hands-on professional guidance to support and inspire the development of classroom systems, our universal offer and best practice. You will design and embed a graduated approach that empowers classroom teachers.
Our SENDCo will work regularly with families showing understanding and compassion and external professionals to best support all young people. You will be responsible for the line management of our fantastic team of Learning Support Assistants and work in collaboration with the senior leadership team to ensure their effective deployment. You will also plan, coordinate and support delivery of interventions across the settings.
We acknowledge the necessity for ongoing CPD for all colleagues in relation to SEND. The successful candidate will be integral in the identification, coordination and delivery of this.
Applicants must hold qualified teacher status and the National Award for SEN Coordination (or be working towards it / willing to undertake the qualification).
The successful candidate will work with the senior leadership team and attend SLT meetings, where relevant, to drive this inclusion and SEND strategy and shape our vision for SEND provision. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a passion for SEND and Inclusion to further develop their skills and leadership experiences across the primary phase. This post is being offered either as 0.6FTE SENDCo which does not hold a regular class teaching responsibility, or this role could be paired with a 0.4FTE KS1/2 teaching responsibility if the successful candidate wishes to join our federation on full time hours.
The role will also hold the responsibility of Designated Teacher for Looked After and Post looked after children, ensuring these pupils receive the advocacy, support and high-quality provision they deserve.
At Aylsham Learning Federation we recognise that the educational landscape has shifted, and mainstream schools are now the primary setting for many children with complex needs. Our vision is to build a culture of inclusion from the top down, where you are a hands-on strategic leader with influence to change lives.
