About the Role

At Leiston Primary School, we believe that every child deserves to feel valued, included and successful. We are looking for a passionate, knowledgeable and dedicated SENDCo to lead our SEND provision and help ensure that all pupils receive the support they need to thrive academically, socially and emotionally.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced SENDCo or an ambitious teacher looking to take the next step into leadership. The role offers the opportunity to shape and further develop a high-quality SEND provision that has inclusion, aspiration and pupil wellbeing at its heart.

Working closely with pupils, families, staff, governors and external professionals, you will play a key role in ensuring that barriers to learning are removed and that every child can access the full life of the school.

Whether you are coordinating provision for a child with complex needs, supporting teachers to develop adaptive practice, leading staff training, working alongside families, or helping to shape whole-school improvement priorities, no two days will be the same. If you are passionate about inclusion and committed to securing excellent outcomes for all children, we would love to hear from you.

As our SENDCo, you will:

  • Lead and manage SEND provision across the school, championing inclusion and full engagement in all aspects of school life.
  • Oversee Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), annual reviews and statutory responsibilities.
  • Work closely with teachers to develop high-quality adaptive teaching and inclusive classroom practice.
  • Coordinate interventions and monitor their impact on pupil outcomes.
  • Analyse progress, attendance, behaviour and wellbeing information to identify barriers and secure appropriate support.
  • Build positive and productive relationships with children, families and carers.
  • Liaise effectively with external agencies and professionals.
  • Lead staff development and support colleagues in meeting a broad range of additional needs.
  • Contribute strategically to whole-school improvement and inclusion priorities.
  • Ensure high standards of safeguarding, inclusion and pupil welfare are maintained at all times.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status.
  • Holds the National Award for SEN Coordination, is currently undertaking or is willing to undertake the qualification.
  • Has successful experience of working with pupils with SEND.
  • Has a strong understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and inclusive education.
  • Is passionate about achieving the very best outcomes for children with additional needs.
  • Has the confidence and skills to lead, influence and support colleagues.
  • Builds positive relationships with pupils, families and professionals.
  • Is highly organised, resilient and solution-focused.
  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Understands the importance of safeguarding and promoting children's welfare.
  • Shares our commitment to inclusion, respect and high expectations for every child.
  • Embodies our school values of Respect, Resilience, Kindness and Teamwork.

Why Join Us?

  • Opportunities for ongoing professional development and leadership development within SEND.
  • Support from colleagues across the wider Trust.
