What skills and experience we're looking for
- Proven experience in delivering high quality provision for children with SEND leadership within a school setting. Ideally this will include special school experience.
- Proven experience of leading school improvement across a whole school setting or driving improvements for SEND pupils with complex needs and/or supporting colleague in developing their expertise.
- Strong understanding of SEND legislation and EHCP processes.
- QTS and a minimum of an undergraduate degree.
- National Award SENCO Qualification and, ideally, special school experience and/or outreach work supporting colleagues.
- Ability to lead, inspire, and support staff in inclusive and adaptive teaching practices.
- A commitment to upholding the school’s values and ethos.

As a single academy trust, with its roots firmly in its community, you’ll have the passion and commitment to lead and inspire the provision within and across our school for our pupils with SEND and beyond. You will:
Key Responsibilities.
- Jointly lead SEND Provision:Champion inclusive education, ensuring high-quality SEND support for all students. You will work alongside a SENDco partner – a deputy head already in post – but form a joint leadership team with parallel seniority within SEND in order to create a SEND team approach at leadership level. Your partner will be contributing approximately 0.5 to 0.6 FTE to the SEND leadership partnership.
- Responsibility: Take responsibility for the lower or upper phase of SEND provision in our school (Years 3 and 4 or 5 and 6) so that you drive improvement in that phase but work with your partner SENDco to join up whole school provision and provide whole school cover and training as required for SENDco areas of responsibility.
- Uphold Our Ethos:Foster positive relationships with parents, staff, and governors
- Track & Monitor Progress:Utilise data-driven approaches to assess pupil progress and tailor support effectively so that we constantly remove barriers, push boundaries and see our pupils flourishing.
- Secure Resources & Funding:Collaborate with the Local Authority (LA) to obtain necessary funding and resources. Be active in looking at support offers beyond this where possible.
- EHCP Management:Oversee and ensure timely completion of the annual review process in line with statutory requirements and take on the core responsibility for this work in the lower or upper school – sharing the EHCP workload with your partner.
- Personalised Learning:Design creative, individualised learning packages and facilitate smooth transitions for students.
- Partnership & Collaboration:Build strong relationships with parents, external agencies, and other schools to enhance student support.
- Staff Development:Provide professional training, guidance, and support to promote inclusive teaching practices across the school but with a clear emphasis in your phase.
- Strategic Leadership:Contribute to the school's vision and improvement plan, ensuring SEND provision aligns with strategic goals. Work with your partner to create a cohesive plan, vision and strategy for SEND across the school.
