SENDCO & Part Time Reception Teacher job summary

📌 The Role

Phase 1: Part‑Time Reception Teacher & SENDCo (Until 31 August 2027)

During this initial phase, the successful candidate will support a temporary staffing pinch point by teaching part‑time in Reception. This is not an EYFS‑specialist role, and we welcome applications from experienced teachers with limited or no EYFS background, provided they bring confidence, adaptability, and a willingness to “give it a go.”

Alongside this, they will carry out the SENDCo role, leading SEND across the school, strengthening identification and provision, and supporting staff with high‑quality inclusive practice and quality first teaching.

Phase 2: Full Non‑Class‑Based SENDCo (From September 2027)

From September 2027, the role becomes fully non‑class‑based, with responsibility for:

  • Whole‑school SEND leadership

  • Teacher in Charge of five internal SEND provisions

  • Coaching and professional development

  • Driving quality first teaching

  • Strategic work with leaders, families, and external agencies

🧠 What We’re Looking For

  • Strong understanding of complex SEND

  • Expertise in quality first teaching

  • Strategic leadership capability

  • Ability to influence and develop provision

  • Confidence to teach Reception during Phase 1

🏫 A Unique Opportunity

Why the Vacancy Has Arisen

This vacancy comes at a significant moment for Compass. Our current SENDCo has led a period of exceptional improvement, strengthening systems, embedding high‑quality practice, and establishing our five internal SEND provisions. Their leadership has transformed the SEND landscape and contributed to a growing reputation among families seeking strong inclusive provision.

Following this impact, they have now been promoted to Principal, creating a rare opportunity for a new SENDCo to build on strong foundations and lead the next phase of development.

The SEND Landscape at Compass

Compass has experienced a sustained rise in SEND need and demand. Over the last three years, the number of EHCPs has increased significantly, and levels of SEND support within mainstream classrooms remain high. More families are choosing Compass specifically for its SEND offer, reflecting confidence in the quality of provision and the strength of our inclusive ethos.

Space to Grow

The school has additional space available, creating an exciting opportunity to:

  • Increase the capacity of internal SEND provisions

  • Develop new specialist environments tailored to pupil need

  • Work with the Local Authority to explore expanding the SEND offer

  • Innovate and design provision that transforms outcomes for vulnerable learners

This role is ideal for a SEND leader who wants to build, shape, and grow something exceptional.

🤝 What We Offer

A supportive, forward‑thinking leadership team

  • Strong Trust‑wide SEND networks

  • Opportunities for professional development and leadership growth

  • A school community committed to inclusion, nurture, and ambition
