What skills and experience we're looking for

The Ideal Candidate

• Must hold Qualified Teacher Status

• Holds or is working toward the SENCO national professional qualification (NPQ)

• Has successful experience of working with students with SEND in a secondary setting

• Has a thorough understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and current SEND legislation

• Is passionate about inclusive education and raising achievement for vulnerable learners

The Governors at Shuttleworth College are seeking an exceptional and passionate Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to lead our SEND provision across our vibrant and ambitious mainstream secondary school.

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who is determined to ensure that every young person receives the support, challenge and opportunities they need to thrive. As a school with a significant number of students with SEND, inclusion sits at the heart of everything we do. We believe that all pupils can achieve highly when barriers to learning are identified and addressed, and we are committed to providing outstanding support for students with a wide range of needs.

About the Role

• Lead and coordinate SEND provision across the school

• Lead and develop a large and highly effective SEND team

• Oversee the identification, assessment, provision and progress of students with SEND

• Work closely with staff to ensure high-quality adaptive teaching and inclusive classroom practice

• Coordinate Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and annual reviews
