SENDCO job summary

We are looking to appoint a diligent, caring and skilled professional as SENDCO at our wonderful school. We are keen to receive applications from those who either already possess the National SENDCO qualification or those who would be prepared to complete the qualification in post.

St Benedict’s is an highly successful, happy and popular school and this post is critical in ensuring the continued success of all our learners regardless of their needs or challenges. We are very proud that at St Benedict’s our students with additional needs perform very well in standard measures, but we believe that all our students should flourish in their time with us whatever their God-given potential and gain meaningfully from the education and community we provide and exam results alone are not the measure  of this.

We are keen therefore for a colleague to join us who shares our ambition for our young people and can help us provide the teaching, support, intervention and strategy to ensure that our school continues to be a happy, successful and caring community for all.

Please contact the school if you wish to discuss the post, school or your application further.

Commitment to safeguarding

Our organisation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff, volunteers and trustees to share this commitment.

Our recruitment process follows the keeping children safe in education guidance.

Offers of employment may be subject to the following checks (where relevant):
childcare disqualification
Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)
medical
online and social media
prohibition from teaching
right to work
satisfactory references
suitability to work with children

You must tell us about any unspent conviction, cautions, reprimands or warnings under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975.

Following our 2016 'Good' Ofsted rating, St Benedict's received a section 8 Ofsted inspection in April 2022

The report states that:

St Benedict’s Catholic School continues to be a good school.

It goes on to say that:

Pupils say that their school is a happy place where they feel safe and accepted. They know that their teachers look after them and provide them with the support they need.

Pupils demonstrate very positive attitudes to their work. It is important for them to be the best they can be. They are also respectful, kind and compassionate towards each other, their teachers and visitors to the school. Older students are mature and self-assured, and support younger pupils in and out of the classroom.

Pupils interact well with each other and with their teachers. They help each other in class. They listen carefully and appreciate others’ hard work. Instances of low-level disruption are very rare. Bullying hardly exists. Should it happen, it is dealt with swiftly.

Pupils flourish as a result of the school’s powerful caring ethos. Pupils are open minded and confident. They embrace diversity, respect difference and understand other world religions. Pupils say, ‘It is a school where it is okay to be different.’

Please see the full report (of which we are very proud!)

Our school is committed to our mission as a Catholic community and seeks to help all our young people achieve their potential both academically and personally.

St Benedict's is a mixed comprehensive secondary school and currently has 953 (c970 in September) students aged 11-18.
