Senior Assistant Headteacher of Service

FULL-TIME, PERMANENT - LEADERSHIP SCALE: L8 - L12

To start Summer-Term 2025 or ASAP

initially based at St. David’s Centre

HPRS are offering a unique opportunity for a senior leader to work alongside the Head of Service with responsibility of running the St. David’s Centre and supporting Aconbury and H3 as required. This is an exciting time to join HPRS due to the future growth of the service, with the aim of St. David’s and Aconbury coming together on one site to expand the alternative provision offer for the young people of Herefordshire.

Herefordshire Pupil Referral Service (HPRS) provides education to pupils unable to attend mainstream school for various reasons. The service is currently split over three sites located within Hereford – St David’s Centre (KS4), The Aconbury Centre (KS3) and H3 (Hospital, Home, Hub Teaching Team).

HPRS provides a safe, secure and welcoming learning environment in which young people can grow as responsible, independent and self-confident learners. The service benefits from a supportive Management Committee and Senior Leadership Team and a dynamic team of experienced, committed staff.

Candidates will need to be patient and understanding of difficulties that can be experienced by our pupils and have excellent communication skills. Candidates will also need to:

  • Support the education, care and welfare of pupils, under the direction of the Headteacher
  • Help pupils overcome barriers to learning
  • Be an excellent classroom practitioner
  • Improve pupil’s confidence, motivation, social skills and relationships, enabling them to face new and challenging situations.
  • Improve pupils’ attendance and punctuality
  • Work on your own initiative
  • Be a good timekeeper, flexible, accommodating and a team player
