What skills and experience we're looking for

The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and self-motivated team player who will support 3D Design, Food and Textiles, liaising with the Faculty Leader and working closely with subject teachers.

You will be responsible for using your initiative and ensuring a high level of support is provided to the department with preparation of materials and resources for lessons, assisting student learning on a one-to-one basis and with small groups, allowing students to achieve and make progress.

You will be able to prioritise the requirements of the department and work independently to complete tasks.

Responsibilities include working alongside students in the workshop, supporting their development of skills, preparing classroom materials/resources, maintaining adequate stock levels and ensuring that routine maintenance and repairs of equipment and machinery is undertaken.

A good knowledge of the required health and safety, most up to date guidance and risk assessment requirements is required/essential, as is the possession of a wide range of practical skills including CAD/CAM, to be able to produce high quality exemplar materials for projects.

Experience gained in other fields e.g. industrial, will be highly valued.

  • Flexibility to work within other areas of the Design Technology Department

  • Excellent practical knowledge and skills
  • Ability to work closely and communicate effectively with students of high school age
  • Be computer literate and willing to learn school systems
  • Able to use CAM machines e.g. laser cutter

Desirable Skills and Abilities:

  • Be familiar with 2D design and Lasercut
  • Be confident in the use of working machines e.g. lathes
  • Previous technician experience
  • Some experience of electronics
  • Industrial experience
