We are seeking an experienced safeguarding professional to join our team as a Senior Safeguarding Practitioner. In this key role, you will lead on safeguarding and student welfare across the schools, identifying concerns, making timely referrals to social care or the police, and supporting students throughout investigations and case reviews. You will liaise with external agencies, maintain accurate records on the Student Welfare system (recognising their potential use in legal proceedings), and apply a strong understanding of contextual safeguarding. This includes managing safeguarding files from feeder schools and conducting assessments to ensure prompt, appropriate support.
You will work closely with staff and external partners to support vulnerable groups, including Children in Care, Young Adult Carers, and students with mental health needs. The role requires sound knowledge of SEND and SEMH, strong communication and IT skills, and the ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism and empathy. Responsibilities include one-to-one welfare support, behaviour and attendance monitoring, responding to emotional distress, coordinating home visits, and advising on housing, benefits, and access to services.
You will advocate for students in multi-agency settings, promote resilience and independence, contribute to PSHE enrichment, and represent the school professionally in external meetings. A commitment to ongoing safeguarding and mental health development, alongside flexibility to undertake additional welfare duties, is essential.
