Senior Science Technician

£26,155-£28,876 per annum, pro rata to £23,438-£25,877 per annum.

37 hours a week, term time plus 2 week’s holiday working - 4 days a week 8.30am-4.30pm and the other day 8.30am-4pm everyday with an unpaid lunchbreak of 30 minutes.

We are seeking a Senior Science Technician to lead the technical services within our vibrant Science Department. This is a pivotal role in ensuring high-quality science education by providing expert technical support, managing resources, and ensuring the safe and effective use of laboratory equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Technical Leadership: Oversee and maintain the delivery of technical services, supporting staff and students with equipment and materials during practical lessons.

  • Curriculum Support: Collaborate with teaching staff to identify and develop technical needs aligned with the science curriculum.

  • Health & Safety Champion: Ensure all practices meet health and safety regulations, staying up to date with CLEAPSS guidance and best practices.

  • Team Management: Lead, manage, and support the professional development of our dedicated team of science technicians.

  • Training & Support: Provide essential laboratory safety training for non-specialist users such as cover supervisors and teaching assistants.

  • Resource Management: Take responsibility for the science department budget, including procurement, stock management, and processing financial authorisations.
What we’re looking for:

      • A strong background in technical science/lab experience
      • Managing stock control and keeping records
      • A recognised qualification in Science at A Level or above
      • Excellent organisational, leadership, and communication skills
      • A proactive attitude and a passion for supporting education
      • Knowledge of current health and safety standards relevant to a science lab environment
      • Confident basic user of IT
