Job description

We are seeking to appoint a full time Senior Science Technician. The post-holder will supervise the current part time Science Technician and support the delivery of required practical activities for the new science 1-9 GCSE, working under the Head of Faculty. You will be responsible for managing the stock control of equipment and other materials relating to Science lessons, record keeping and some ordering, e.g. for students practical sessions, tracking methods, results, budget, etc. You will also be required to support the planning and preparation of materials and equipment required for focus days across all science disciplines.

Essential educational requirements

Minimum 5 GCSE Grades A* - C or equivalent including Science, English and Maths

Essential qualifications

Appropriate NVQ qualifications

Essential skills and experience

A thorough knowledge of CLEAPPS/COSHH risk management systems and how to relate this to the work environment
A thorough knowledge gained through significant time employed in a similar role
An ability to make sound and logical judgment in decision making
A thorough knowledge of data protection and confidentiality
Experience in a previous Team Leader/Line Management role
A good knowledge / experience of how a secondary school works including its governance
Previous experience working with children or working in a young person centred environment
An ability to act as an ambassador for the school
Excellent ICT skills including Microsoft office packages
Good organisational skills, to be able to prioritise work and meet deadlines
Good communication and written skills
