We are looking for someone who takes pride in maintaining safe, secure and well-presented environments and who enjoys leading a team while remaining actively involved in the practical delivery of site services.
About the Role
Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will take responsibility for the operational management of the Academy's premises, ensuring our buildings and grounds are safe, compliant, well maintained and fit for learning every day.
This is a genuinely hands-on role. Alongside leading the facilities team, you will undertake practical maintenance, repairs and site management duties while coordinating contractors and ensuring statutory compliance.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading the day-to-day operation of the school site and facilities team.
- Managing planned and reactive maintenance across the Academy.
- Ensuring compliance with all health and safety and statutory regulations.
- Managing contractors and monitoring the quality of their work.
- Overseeing site security, keyholding, opening and closing procedures.
- Supporting cleaning, grounds maintenance and housekeeping services.
- Coordinating premises compliance, inspections and record keeping.
- Responding to emergencies and ensuring business continuity.
- Supporting capital improvement projects and estate developments.
About You
We are looking for someone who has:
- Experience managing facilities, estates or site services, ideally within a school or public sector environment.
- Strong knowledge of building maintenance and statutory compliance.
- Experience leading teams and managing external contractors.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- A proactive, practical approach with the ability to solve problems effectively.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
You will also be willing to undertake physical site duties, including minor repairs, maintenance, porterage, site inspections and emergency response, leading by example and supporting your team where needed.
Relevant qualifications in facilities management, health and safety or building maintenance (such as IOSH, NEBOSH or IWFM) are desirable but not essential.
