Site Manager job summary

Aldercar High School is seeking an experienced and dedicated Site Manager to take a leading role in ensuring our school remains a safe, welcoming and well‑maintained environment for students, staff and the wider community.

Working 37 hours per week, all year round, you will oversee all aspects of premises management, health and safety compliance, security, maintenance, and the effective coordination of our premises team. This role is central to the smooth running of the school and plays a vital part in supporting high‑quality education through excellent facilities and a safe learning environment.

As the Site Manager, you will:

  • Lead on long‑term site development, maintenance planning and capital projects.
  • Manage a team of premises staff and cleaners, ensuring high standards of cleanliness, maintenance and safety across the school estate.
  • Oversee all health and safety responsibilities, including risk assessments, compliance checks, emergency procedures and contractor management.
  • Ensure the efficient operation of heating, plumbing, alarms, security systems and other essential school infrastructure.
  • Act as the school’s key holder, responding to callouts and ensuring effective security of the site.
  • Play a crucial role in operational planning for school events, lettings, day‑to‑day activities and emergency situations.
  • Manage budgets, tenders, contracts and procurement processes linked to the premises function

We are looking for someone who is:

  • A confident leader with strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Knowledgeable in facilities management, health and safety legislation and building maintenance.
  • Practical, proactive and solutions‑focused, with the ability to prioritise and respond to challenges calmly.
  • Able to work flexibly, including occasional evenings, weekends and holiday periods.
  • Committed to maintaining a safe and positive environment for young people.
