Purpose of the Role
To manage the school site and associated site staff, including allocation and monitoring of work and performance review. Oversee external contractors working on site and ensure premises health and safety. Liaise daily with the Business Manager or Headteacher on all aspects of site operations.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Act as the main key holder responsible for site security, including opening/closing & locking premises, lettings, and emergency call-outs.
- Undertake minor maintenance and redecoration tasks to maintain high standards across the site.
- Maintain a safe and clean external environment (e.g. gritting, litter picking, graffiti removal, drain clearance).
- Coordinate and monitor contractors, ensuring safe working practices and quality assurance.
- Carry out health and safety checks (fire systems, emergency lighting, Legionella) and maintain accurate records.
- Operate and monitor programmed systems (e.g. heating, lighting, alarms) for efficiency and safety.
- Receive deliveries and distribute goods appropriately; maintain stock levels and records.
- Supervise cleaning and assistant site staff; monitor standards and support during absences.
- Undertake portage duties including furniture setup and movement.
- Comply with policies relating to child protection, health and safety, and confidentiality.
- Contribute to the school’s ethos and aims; support other professionals as needed.
- Attend meetings, training, and performance development activities.
- Provide courteous, professional service to all users of the school.
- Promote health and safety for pupils, staff, and visitors at all times.
- Ensure risk assessments and COSHH documentation are in place and up to date.
Decision Making
Manage work in liaison with the School Business Manager to meet operational needs.
Respond appropriately to emergency situations and unforeseen issues.

Physical Effort
Regular manual handling, lifting, bending, and stretching required.
Exposure to dust, dirt, and outdoor conditions, particularly in adverse weather.

Provide line management and support to site staff.
Job Specific Competencies
Experience in premises or site management Basic ICT proficiency
Strong communication skills NVQ Level 2 or equivalent desirable
Working knowledge of health and safety legislation
DIY and handy-person skills (e.g. plumbing, carpentry, decorating)
