Site Technician job summary

Overall Purpose of Post:

To ensure the facilities of the academy are maintained to the highest possible standards and strive for continuous improvement in all areas to help us towards our aspiration to be world class.


Responsibilities and Accountabilities

1. To undertake the full range of duties and responsibilities as required by the Principal as set out in:

a) The SNMAT Contract.

b) Any other duties commensurate to the post title which the Principal or Line Manager may deem appropriate.

2. Participation in continuous professional development.

Specific to the role

Continuous Improvement

1. Ensure all facilities are maintained to outstanding and world class standards.

2. To continuously review and develop systems and processes ensuring all areas run efficiently.

Core Duties

1. To ensure the landscaping and all outdoor areas of the academy are routinely maintained to the highest standards, kept free from litter, leaves and weeds.

2. To help manage and respond to site requests. This may include day to day repairs, requests for set up at events and assembling and dismantling of sports and other equipment.

3. General maintenance of site equipment and garden machinery on a day-to-day basis.

4. Horticultural operations, for example; planting, seeding, pruning and maintenance of shrub and flower beds.

5. Operation of powered hand tools such as strimmers, hedge cutters and mowers.

6. To assist with the upkeep of the facilities such as painting and decorating and other minor repairs.

7. Carry out routine maintenance of toilet facilities, unblocking toilets, sinks, drains, minor plumbing repairs (fitting replacement taps) and remove any graffiti.

8. Accept and distributing deliveries.

9. Be responsible for preparing site for any inclement weather, gritting and clearing snow and ice as necessary.

10. Ensure all checks and tests are carried out to ensure statutory compliance by self, staff or contractors and undertake statutory and non-statutory inspections as directed by the Site Manager (training will be given).

11. Maintain and monitor boilers.

12. Undertake any cleaning duties as necessary ensuring compliance with COSHH regulations.

13. Be aware of the locations of essential services including water isolation valves, fire points, drainage systems, gas and power supplies.

14. Regular inspection of all drains and gullies for blockages remedying as necessary.

15. Ensure buildings are locked and unlocked at appropriate times (including daily opening and closing as and when necessary); setting and disarming of alarm systems.

16. As a primary key holder, be prepared to attend site out of normal working hours as and when required, if the current securing monitoring company need additional help (e.g. intruders, fire and floods) ensuring that all reasonable steps are taken to safeguard own Health & Safety at all times.

17. Attendance at staff meetings and INSET activities and be prepared to undertake any training relevant to the role.

18. To take reasonable care for the health and safety of themselves and others who may be affected by their activities and where appropriate, safeguarding the health and safety of all persons under their control and guidance in accordance with Health and Safety legislation.

Although this is a 37-hour week position, the nature of the job may require flexible working to meet the needs of the academy. Working arrangements will be determined with the line manager and any additional hours worked will attract overtime or time in lieu which will be agreed in advance.

2) To comply with the Academy’s Child Safeguarding Procedures at all times including signing in of contractors and supervision where required.
