Special Educational Needs & Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo) job summary

We are looking for an experienced teacher with a passion for supporting pupils with special educational needs to join our friendly and supportive team. Working closely with the head teacher and other senior colleagues, you'll use your leadership skills to manage SEN provision and to provide support to other teachers. Your responsibilities will include designing and delivering interventions with pupils in the classroom and implementing the school strategy.

You will be someone who is committed to raising standards for all students and have strong leadership and organisational skills.

Must hold QTS and NASENCo Award.   This post is not suitable for an ECT

The ideal candidate will have :

  • Experience in liaising with SEN Teams in local authorities.
  • Experience in coordinating pupil-centred annual reviews and providing timely reports.
  • Experience in understanding and supporting children with potential implications for communication, learning and behaviour patterns.
  • Demonstrable experience in raising outcomes for pupils.
  • Working knowledge of Safeguarding and Child Protection procedures, the national curriculum, key stage requirements and Code of Practice for SEND.
  • The ability to provide regular updates on pupil progress through written reports and meetings with parents.
  • Confidence to lead professional development through example and support, and co-ordinate the provision of high quality professional development by methods such as coaching, drawing on other sources of expertise as necessary.
  • Enthusiasm and commitment to improving educational outcomes for pupils with special educational needs.
  • An abundance of energy, initiative, vision, drive and humour.
  • A keen understanding  of wellbeing for students and staff.
