Cape Cornwall School is seeking a dedicated Specialist Administrator to join our supportive and collaborative organisation. In this vital role, you will play a crucial part in the day-to-day life of the school, ensuring smooth administrative operations that directly support teaching and learning across Cornwall.
About the RoleAs a Specialist Administrator, you will manage a variety of responsibilities depending on the unique needs and size of your school's team. Your role will focus on one or more specialist administrative areas, which may include: Administration: Provide professional and confidential administrative services, manage student records on Arbor, coordinate pupil admissions and leavers, maintain the school website, and assist with marketing and school communications. Finance & Payroll: Collate and produce monthly payroll documents (overtime, expenses, sickness) for submission via The Vault, manage local school purchasing, code income, and administer parent payments via ParentPay or Arbor Pay. Attendance Support: Work closely with the pastoral team and families to monitor attendance, identify absence patterns, and hold supportive yet challenging conversations with kindness and empathy. To work directly with identified students and their families to improve attendance and engagement with school, particularly for those students from a disadvantaged background.Staff Cover Coordination: Manage daily cover arrangements for absent staff, deploy cover supervisors or supply teachers, and provide comprehensive inductions for new supply staff. Personnel & HR: Act as a first point of contact for staff HR inquiries, coordinate new-starter inductions, support recruitment processes, maintain personnel files, and assist with the Single Central Record (SCR). What We Are Looking ForTo succeed in this role, you should bring a blend of administrative expertise and a strong commitment to supporting our school community.
Essential Requirements:GCSEs (or equivalent) including English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above. An NVQ Level 3 in Business Administration or equivalent experience in a relevant administrative role. Excellent IT skills, including proficiency in Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook), and exceptional typing accuracy. First Aid training, or a willingness to undertake training to become a school first aider. Outstanding communication, listening, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to maintain calm and professional under pressure. A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Desirable Criteria:Previous experience working in a school environment or using school systems like Arbor (MIS). Experience in absence or attendance management. Level 3 Safeguarding or Safer Recruitment training. Typing, word processing, or minute-taking qualifications.
