What skills and experience we're looking for
Drake Primary School has a unique opportunity for an excellent practitioner to work alongside our leadership as a full-time non-class based Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo). This role includes leadership of our Pastoral Team who strategically coordinate and monitor provision for Attendance, Parent Support, Safeguarding, SEND and any disadvantaged groups across school.
You will be joining an innovative, trail-blazing primary school and playing a role in its success and the ongoing development of SEND offer.
In addition to working with colleagues, you will work closely with families, building positive trusting relationships with them and their children. You will also collaborate with external professionals and agencies, to ensure the best outcomes for our pupils.
The main responsibilities are;
- Have a strategic overview of the daily provision for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) across the school
- Strategically monitor and review the quality of provision for children with SEND
- Ensure the SEND Policy is effectively implemented and the objectives of the policy are reflected in the school improvement plan
- Lead our Pastoral Team, including weekly strategic meetings and line-management of our non-SLT Pastoral staff.
- Designated Lead for Looked After Children
- Maintain an up to date knowledge of national and local initiatives, which may affect school’s policy and practice
- Oversee applications for, and the management of SEND funding, including evaluating whether funding is being used effectively
- Maintain an accurate SEND register and Provision Map
- Provide guidance to colleagues when teaching pupils with SEND
- Collaborate effectively with all stakeholders, including colleagues, families, external professionals and The Local Authority
- Coordinate external professionals and referrals, in collaboration with the Pastoral Team
- Support the whole school mission, vision and aims, as directed by the Senior Leadership Team
- Identify pupils with SEND and determine appropriate next steps, utilising the assess, plan, do review (APDR) cycle
- Analyse key data for pupils with SEND, including assessment and holistic data
- Be a key contact for families, stakeholders and external professionals as appropriate
- Design, monitor and model appropriate interventions and provisions for children with SEND
- Secure relevant services and opportunities for pupils, ensuring children with SEND are meaningfully included within the whole school community
- Ensure that records are maintained to a high quality
- Coordinate the provision for pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), including leading EHCP Annual Reviews
- Ensure that pupils are effectively supported in and out of our school setting as appropriate
- Support staff teams to provide the appropriate access arrangements during summative assessment, in order to reduce barriers to learning
The SENDCo will be required to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people, follow school policies and the staff code of conduct.
