Start date September 2026 - as soon as possible

Paston Ridings Primary School is seeking to appoint a highly skilled, caring and committed Specialist Teaching Assistant to work within our SEND Hub, supporting some of our most vulnerable pupils.

This is not a general classroom teaching assistant role. The successful candidate will work closely with the SENCO, Assistant SENCO, teachers and wider inclusion team to support pupils with significant and complex SEND needs, including pupils who are autistic, non-verbal or have substantial communication, sensory, social, emotional or learning needs.

We are particularly interested in hearing from graduates, or those with strong relevant experience, who are keen to develop specialist knowledge of SEND, inclusive practice and child development. This role would suit someone who is reflective, emotionally resilient, proactive and able to build trusting relationships with pupils who may communicate in a range of different ways.

The role will involve supporting pupils’ access to learning, communication, regulation and independence. There will also be an important element of preparing resources, contributing to planning for pupils’ learning and helping to implement individual support plans, learning plans and EHCP outcomes under the direction of the SENCO and Assistant SENCO.

We are looking for someone who:

  • has a genuine commitment to supporting pupils with complex SEND;

  • is calm, patient, consistent and emotionally resilient;

  • can build positive relationships with pupils who may be non-verbal or communicate differently;

  • understands, or is willing to learn about, autism, sensory needs and communication strategies;

  • can use initiative while working within clear professional guidance;

  • is able to prepare, adapt and organise learning resources for individual pupils;

  • can work closely with the SENCO, Assistant SENCO, teachers and families;

  • is committed to safeguarding, inclusion and high expectations for all children.

In return, we can offer:

  • a supportive and experienced inclusion team;

  • the opportunity to work in a developing specialist SEND Hub;

  • high-quality professional development;

  • regular guidance from the SENCO and Assistant SENCO;

  • the chance to make a significant difference to pupils with complex needs and their families.

Visits to the school are warmly encouraged.

Paston Ridings Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references and all relevant pre-employment checks.
