What skills and experience we're looking for
We are looking for an enthusiastic and adaptable team player with the vision and ambition to continue to develop our high-quality provision for pupils with communication and interaction difficulties .
Our new specialist SEN provision lead needs to:
• be committed to supporting our vision for pupils with SEN to move “from dependence to independence”
• be an excellent teacher
• have excellent knowledge of specialist approaches to support children with Autism and communication and interaction difficulties
• be an effective communicator
• confidently work with a range of agencies and staff
• be good at presenting information – to staff, governors and visitors as part of our outreach development
• be willing to lead a team, contributing to leadership team meetings
• have strong but positive behaviour management
• be calm in challenging situations
Role Description
Support and develop highly effective teaching and learning within William Cobbett Primary School Woodland Centre and coordinate the provision for inclusion in the pupil's mainstream classes. This includes but is not limited to:
• Responsibility for managing and timetabling children's EHCP provisions and ensuring coverage of statutory curriculum
• Responsibility for leading and managing a team of Centre teachers and support staff
• Hold responsibility for the curriculum and provision from Year R to Year 6
• Responsibility for inclusion of the children in their mainstream classes and curriculum offer
This includes planning for and supporting:
• A calm, nurturing and needs lead approach
• Individual or small group work to focus on specific communication and interaction skills.
• Highly differentiated teaching and learning delivered at an appropriate pace and level.
• A communication-friendly environment with the use of visual prompts to support understanding, including a visual timetable.
• Use of highly specialist approaches and interventions such as TEACCH, Aided Language Boards, social skills
• Reactive and adaptive planning for learning.
• Consideration of specialist IT assessment and resources to support learning, such as Communicate in Print and Clicker.
• Access to individual support as well as learning alongside peers.
• Considering adaptations needed to the physical environment to help with access to learning, for example picture labelling of resources, avoiding sensory overload, sensory integration and regulation spaces
• Careful planning for transition – to include the pupil and parent voice.
• Regular multi-agency assessment and reviews of progress, including leading and contributing to annual reviews of EHCPs.
• Have input into consultations for admission into the specialist provision, alongside the Inclusion Lead.
• Provision of a calm/safe area and a time out facility.
• Risk assessments where appropriate to identify health and safety issues.
• Plan, deliver or source regular SEN specific training for specialist provision staff and mainstream staff across the school
Highly Important
• Ensure effective inclusion into mainstream for all pupils, amount dependent on each child’s specific needs
• Ensure highly effective management and deployment of staff
• Form an effective working relationship with the Assistant Head for Inclusion
• Ability to have oversight of, and management of the specialist provision budget, ensuring best value

William Cobbett is a large primary school in the north of Farnham in Surrey. We also have a Special Needs Support Centre catering for children with communication and interaction needs. We are an inclusive school and have the happiness and welfare of pupils at the heart of our work.
