Specialist Sensory Teaching Assistant with BSL job summary
We are looking for a Specialist Sensory Teaching Assistant to join our growing team of staff. The individual will need British sign language qualification as the role will include one-to-one working with students with sensory impairment.
32.5 Hours per week 39 weeks per year( Term time plus INSET days). Term time hours of work: Monday 08.45am- 4.45pm, Tuesday-Friday 08.45am-3.30pm.

Polden Bower, is a 160 place special school and has the specialist resources needed to meet the needs of our students. state-of-the-art facilities for all the children and young people, this includes a warm water pool for physiotherapy; a sports hall; a sensory room; and fully accessible classrooms with the latest teaching technology. This is a very exciting time to be joining a growing Federation. We are working in partnership with The Bridge School which is the PRU within Bridgwater.
We are looking for someone who can:
- Provide mentoring for new support staff
- Provide a professional role model for other staff
- To support the admin roles of the class teacher in terms of
- o Keeping pupil files up to date
- o Ensuring that resources are prepared and ready for learning
- o To be the first point of call in their absence
- To teach groups under the direction of the class teacher
- To teach the whole class, short term in the absence of the class teacher
- To plan and prepare lessons for groups you are teaching
- To deliver training to other staff within the federation
