We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Speech and Language Therapist to join us at Grange School with potential to work across the Trust.
We are seeking anexperienced, passionate and dedicated Speech and Language Therapist to play a crucial role in supporting the communication and language development of our pupils. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in working within a school setting.
The role is full time working 35 hours per week, term-time only, plus 5 additional training days. This is a grade 7 post with a starting salary of £29,961. The full-time equivalent is £34,834.
The successful candidate will provide holistic, specialist provision in a neuro-affirming, pupil centered way. You will be:
- Passionate about supporting pupils, person centered and confident in working with others.
- Able to (and be supported to) conduct assessments using a strength-based approach.
- Able to develop and implement individualised therapy plans.
- Able to collaborate with teachers, parents/carers, and other professionals.
- Provide training and support to school staff on strategies to promote language and communication development.
- Able to monitor and evaluate pupil progress, adjusting therapy as needed.

We cater for pupils with a range of complex Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. We support pupils with social and communication difficulties; Autistic Spectrum Condition; ADHD; PDA; SEMH; related learning and emotional, sensory and motor needs, across a range of cognitive abilities.

Main responsibilities
- To provide Speech and Language therapy for young people with physical impairment, complex health needs and associated learning difficulties
- To undertake a Speech and Language therapy assessment using investigative analytical and clinical reasoning skills considering all aspects of a pupil’s life (social, emotional, environmental)
- To assess for and provide appropriate alternative and augmentative communication systems
- To provide detailed communication assessments passports/profiles highlighting vocal, non-verbal and behaviours that enable communication

Main contacts of the job include the Senior Leadership team, class teachers, teaching assistants, pupils and parents/carers.
Key skills and experience
- Degree in Speech and Language Therapy or equivalent qualification which gives license to practice
- Registration with the Health Professions Council
- License to practice from and membership of RCSLT
- Previous Speech and Language Therapy experience, demonstrating evidence-based practice and the ability to effectively manage a caseload
- Experience of working with children/young people with SEN, particularly those on the Autism Spectrum
- Hold a valid driving license

The Grange School is a special school located in Levenshulme, Manchester which provides 247 day places for pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans, who have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD). Grange offers a bespoke education for a wide range of pupils between EYFS and KS5 through the provision of a carefully planned and stimulating environment where the pupils can explore, investigate and learn. Our bespoke Know and Remember Curriculum has been devised to ensure pupils have access to all the statutory content from the National Curriculum, delivered through engaging and challenging classroom activities. Pupils are set targets each term and progress is measured throughout the school year using our bespoke pupil data system.
Grange School offers some of the most exciting and engaging curriculum enrichment activities to support the pupil’s learning. We have an on-site farm with alpacas, pigs and ducks, alongside guinea pigs, rabbits, tortoises and a gecko. An enhanced learning area called the Know Globes supports the delivery of the Remember More Curriculum, and a full-size role play area known as Imagination Village enables pupils to practise real-world skills such as using money, work in our on-site post office and mail delivery service or experience several other real-world settings, including a grocer’s, a doctor’s surgery, a vet’s, a bakery and a mechanics garage.
KS4 and KS5 have a curriculum designed around the world of work and offer accredited courses in English, maths and PSHE in KS4, along with a range of qualifications as they move into KS5 – including Active Sports and Leisure, Catering and Hospitality and Construction, to name but a few.
