We are a forward-thinking and innovative therapy team comprised of an Occupational Therapist (Therapy Team Lead), Speech and Language Therapist, Music Therapist, Drama Therapist, Art Therapist and Therapy Support Workers. We strive to be neurodiversity affirming and trauma informed in our approach. We work collaboratively with class teams and run a number of whole class interventions. Our work environment fosters creativity, joint working, current practice and a flexible approach.
The appointed therapist will be responsible for providing assessments and interventions for children with a diverse range of needs. The role provides the opportunity to carry out individual, small group and class-based interventions using evidence-based approaches within the school day. Our students have a diverse range of needs and the post will suit a therapist who is interested in Autism, AAC, Gestalt Language Processing, Total Communication, Speech Sound Disorders and neurodiversity affirming approaches.
The postholder will have the opportunity to support the exciting, continued development of our growing therapy team provision including whole school projects for AAC, Gestalt Language Processing and additional therapy group interventions. The post is flexible and there is the opportunity to work collaboratively with the current Speech and Language Therapist to share the responsibilities based on experience and areas of interest. The postholder will have the opportunity to work jointly on projects with other therapists. The therapy team work collaboratively with teaching staff and the appointed therapist will deliver training to staff as required. We offer robust CPD opportunities and access to regular external clinical supervision.

Thank you for expressing an interest in working The Mendip School, a school for children with Autistic Spectrum Disorders and Speech, Language and Communication Needs aged 4-19.
The Mendip School is part of the multi-academy trust partnership known as The Partnership Trust. This status allows the school to be more autonomous and to focus on initiatives that raise aspiration and achievement for children and young people.
The Mendip School staff and governors are committed to and passionate about the learning and progress of our pupils. We have high aspirations for our young people and we aim to provide a high quality, relevant and balanced education for all our pupils that focuses on individual, personal and academic achievement. Students are taught in small groups, usually with more than one member of staff in attendance. There is a happy and positive atmosphere in which young people can fulfill their potential and grow in self-confidence with respect for the people and environment around them.
We would welcome applications from people who may currently be working in mainstream schools as full training and support programmes are offered to those who have limited experience of working in a special school.
