At St Marylebone CE Bridge School, communication is central to school life, relationships with pupils are built over time, and staff work closely together to support young people to thrive.We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant (SLTA) to join our Speech and Language Therapy (SaLT) team for a 12-month fixed-term post. This role has been created as a pilot to explore how an SLTA role can best support and extend our SaLT provision within a specialist secondary school.
About the SchoolThe St Marylebone CE Bridge School is a co-educational Church of England Special Free School for students aged 11-16, all of whom have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), with speech, language and communication needs as their primary area of need.Our students have a wide range of communication profiles, including Developmental Language Disorder (DLD), Autism, social communication differences, and language needs associated with other conditions. Many also benefit from additional support around wellbeing and emotional regulation.We are proud of our inclusive, diverse community and warmly welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, faiths and none.About the SaLT TeamYou will join a small, close-knit Speech and Language Therapy team, working alongside qualified Speech and Language Therapists within the school. The SaLT team works closely with colleagues across the wider school and therapy teams, and is well embedded in day-to-day school life.The Lead Speech and Language Therapist is part of the Senior Leadership Team, ensuring communication remains central to the school’s work.About the RoleThis is a hands-on, pupil-facing role within the SaLT team, with a strong emphasis on being proactive, observant and engaged.You will work directly with children and young people across groups, lessons and other school contexts, supporting communication-focused work. Alongside this, you will play an important role in the day-to-day organisation and clinical administration of the SaLT service, helping to ensure therapy work runs smoothly and effectively.The role is varied and active, combining direct work with pupils with tasks such as observation, record-keeping, professional communication and other service support that underpins high-quality SaLT practice. This includes contributing to notes and records, supporting referrals and information-sharing, and managing therapy-related admin in a busy school environment.We are looking for someone who is comfortable spotting what needs doing, taking initiative in agreed areas, and balancing pupil-facing work with the quieter, behind-the-scenes tasks that make a therapy service function well, while always working within clear professional boundaries.All clinical work will be planned and supervised by a qualified Speech and Language Therapist. Training, induction and regular supervision will be provided, and the role does not involve independent clinical decision-making.As this is a pilot role, there will be scope to help shape how the role develops over the year, with reflection and feedback built in.Who we’re looking forWe’re looking for someone who:

You do not need to have worked as a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant before. Relevant experience may come from education, SEN, therapy, youth work, care or similar settings. What matters most is your judgement, your approach to working with others, and your willingness to learn within a supportive team.What We Offer
