Salary: Dependent upon experience (Starting at Grade E- £29,598 - £31,022 FTE)

At The Woodlands School, we believe every child deserves to be understood, supported and celebrated for who they are. Our staff are united by a shared purpose: to make a meaningful difference in the lives of autistic children and young people. We are looking for a co-worker with the same passionate about communication, connection and helping students thrive

The Woodlands is a nurturing, well-resourced special school, over 3 sites within Milton Keynes, and caters for pupils aged 4-19 with Autism Spectrum conditions and associated speech, language, communication, learning or behavioural needs. Our integrated education and therapy model is at the heart of everything we do.

About the Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and IT‑confident Speech and Language Therapy Assistant to join our dynamic, multidisciplinary therapy team. You’ll work alongside Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and a Reiki & Movement Therapist — all committed to a collaborative, holistic approach where your ideas are valued and your work genuinely changes lives

No two days are the same. You’ll be involved in:

  • Delivering tailored 1:1 and small‑group communication sessions

  • Supporting whole‑school total communication approaches

  • Creating and modelling communication resources (paper-based and power-based)

  • Providing training to staff on InPrint and programming power based devices

  • Supporting in-class modelling of communication strategies within our SCERTS framework

  • Play-based and sensory-informed interaction

  • Working closely with teachers, the wellbeing team, and therapists

  • Recording clinical involvement using school systems

  • Helping the SLT team explore and implement beneficial IT systems and AI tools

Your work will span universal, targeted, and specialist support — always with the aim of helping students communicate confidently and meaningfully.

Who We’re Looking For

We are interested in finding someone with heart, curiosity and a genuine desire to learn.

You’ll thrive here if you are:

  • Warm, patient and passionate approach to supporting autistic children

  • Creative in your approach to communication and interaction

  • Confident building relationships with students, families, and colleagues

  • Confident and competent with IT and have an enthusiasm for creative resource making

  • Experienced in education, therapy or autism support

At Woodlands, we offer:

  • A competitive salary

  • A comprehensive wellbeing benefits package

  • Free parking across all sites

  • Regular supervision, caseload meetings, and MDT sessions

  • Ongoing training and professional development

  • A supportive, forward-thinking team where your voice matters

  • An excellent work-life balance

  • Opportunities to support students in the community and on enrichment trips

If you’re ready to help children find their voice — in whatever form that takes — we’d love to hear from you. You won’t just be supporting communication - you’ll be helping shape confidence, independence and brighter futures.
