What skills and experience we're looking for
We are looking to recruit a Staff Cover and CPD Administrator to ensure the smooth and efficient deployment of cover arrangements for teaching and other staff, ensuring that all lessons have cover for the day. Experience of working with cover in a school is desirable, but not essential. The postholder will be the first point of contact to receive telephone calls from members of staff who are absent from school. There will be occasions (especially for sickness) when this will take place in the early morning. The postholder will be required to start by 7am, Monday to Friday.
Main duties will include:
- To be first point of contact to receive telephone calls from members of staff who are absent from school.
- Ensure cover is in place for staff absence because of sickness, on pre-planned courses, trips and events and hospital appointments etc.
- Manage and deploy the school’s own cover supervisors and/or external/internal supply teachers.
- Produce the daily/weekly lists of staff absences and arrangements for cover provision. This has to be available for staff by 8.15-8.30am each morning.
- Input absence data into Bromcom (Schools’ Information Management System) modules. Produce reports as appropriate.
- Distribute the cover to supply staff for the day.
- Pass approved Student Activity and Staff CPD forms to the Attendance Officer to enter in the School’s electronic calendars as required.
- To ensure that all new external supply teachers have been successfully cleared through the Disclosure and Barring Service.

St Laurence is an 11-18 co-educational comprehensive Church academy situated in the market town of Bradford on Avon. The school dates back to 1980 when Fitzmaurice Grammar School merged with Trinity Secondary Modern but preserves its longer-standing heritage through the work of two foundations (Diocese of Salisbury, Fitzmaurice Educational Trust) which are represented on the Governing Body. St Laurence has a strong reputation with a great emphasis placed on social, moral and spiritual development, as well as academic. We have approximately 1400 students on roll with over 260 in our sixth form.
We provide a huge range of extracurricular activities and encourage students to stay on after school. We are proud of our facilities and the level of expertise our staff display. We have an ongoing programme of investment in buildings and facilities.
Our students come from a variety of social backgrounds and encompass a wide variety of abilities. Relationships with our parents are good and we have a committed PTA known as the SLSA (St Laurence School Association). The local community regards the School highly and gives us considerable support. In turn, the School provides venues and facilities for many community activities and events. Our exam results are good. Student attainment is well above the national average with positive Progress Scores year on year. Our Ofsted in December 2022 deemed us Good and our SIAMS inspection in March 2022 graded us as Excellent in all Areas.
