The Priory Learning Trust (Somerset Business Award winner for Employer of the Year) is looking to recruit a Student and Family Support Officer to work at our Worle Community School – An Academy site in Weston-super-Mare, a five minute drive from the M5 junction, 2.9 miles from the beach, and with strong public transport links.

The main purpose of this role is to promote positive attitudes towards regular school attendance on the part of students and their parents/carers, to improve levels of student attendance and engagement, and to work closely with the school to fulfil its obligations under all relevant legislation.

What you will do to be successful here;

  • Establish effective relationships with designated students both 1:1 and in groups, utilising specialist and developed skills and techniques to ensure they make progress in line with their objectives and achieve their potential.
  • Liaise with parent/carers to provide a direct line of communication between home and school to develop Early Help Assessments Devise, implement action plans monitoring their effectiveness and suggesting amendments that should be considered to provide further assistance to the families.
  • Build effective ongoing relationships with parents/carers keeping them informed of students’ needs, targets and progress and sustaining effective relationships with the school community.

What you will need to succeed;

  • Experience of working with a wide range of agencies, and working with school age children and their families.
  • An understanding of current education law, and the services provided within education.
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills.

This role involves working with children on a daily basis and is therefore in regulated activity.
