Student Support Officer job summary

Our Student Support Officers work within our inclusion team to provide early help and support so that we can ensure the very best outcomes and wellbeing for our students and the community. This involves working with individual students, small groups and their families in a solution focussed way, to help them achieve, grow and develop.

Our Student Support Officer role will be primarily focused on working with the small group of students taken out of the mainstream learning environment on a day-to-day basis. These students may have been removed for a number of behavioural reasons and continue their learning in a smaller, controlled environment. Our Student Support Officers will work with these students to both assist with their studies and also try and identify their triggers, so we can work with them to better support their personal learning journey in the mainstream academy environment.

Excellent communication and people skills are essential, being able to speak to students on their level and find a common ground and mutual respect. You should also have a detailed knowledge of safeguarding, early help and inclusion issues, including a toolkit to provide support. You will be part of a caring and nurturing team who want the very best for our young people.

This role forms part of the wider inclusion team at Kettering Science Academy, consisting of a wide range of professionals including Student Support Officers, Teaching Assistants, School Counsellor and the Safeguarding Team. Together we work to support our students and their families with positive outcomes and help deliver the schools ethos of ‘being the best you can be’ through Knowledge, Strength and Ambition.

This role is term time only, therefore 39 working weeks per year. Your working hours will be 8am – 4pm Monday to Thursday and 8am – 3.30pm Friday.

What we can offer you
· Daily allowance for breakfast and lunch.
· A modern building with fantastic facilities and resources.
· A supportive and friendly community of staff and students.
· A full induction programme.
· Access to BWT Ambition Hub training and development programmes.
