About the Role

Mangotsfield School is looking for a dedicated Study Skills Assistant to join our collaborative and dedicated team. Working under the direction of the Hub Lead you will play a vital role in our Skills Hub by supporting students, particularly those with low literacy levels, to reach their full potential. You will empower these pupils to achieve personal academic success and fully experience everything school has to offer.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver designated learning activities and pre-planned lessons to students on a 1:1 basis or in small groups to improve literacy and wider curriculum outcomes.
  • Provide teaching staff with feedback on student progress, contribute to the planning of support activities and advise staff on specific strategies to help students thrive.
  • Promote the acceptance and inclusion of all students, helping to implement and review Individual Plans.
  • Effectively use ICT to support learning and foster student independence.
  • Contribute to the overall ethos of the school, which may include helping with supervisory arrangements during breaks or out-of-school activities.

About You

We are looking for a flexible, personable and proactive individual who can act as a positive role model for our students while upholding our school values.

You will need:

  • A good standard of general education (GCSE Level 5/Grade C or above in Maths and English).
  • Prior experience supporting pupils with individual, diverse needs.
  • The ability to work independently, take initiative and adapt to changing situations.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build strong, effective relationships
  • Confidence in delivering pre-planned learning activities to small groups.
  • A commitment to your own professional development and a willingness to study towards relevant qualifications.

About us

Mangotsfield School has been recognised by Ofsted as a “rapidly improving, community focused, ambitious school.” In our last inspection we were awarded Good in all categories, a testament to the vision and dedication of the leadership and teaching body.

Mangotsfield School has a strong ethos built on our four values. In all aspects of school life we encourage students to love learning, embrace challenge, give and earn respect and grow our community. Our classrooms, our corridors and our systems are built on these values: this supports our culture where we can meet individual needs and close the gaps for our students.

Mangotsfield School is a local secondary school firmly rooted in, and proudly working within, the community which it serves. The school is situated in pleasant semi-rural surroundings on the north-eastern outskirts of Bristol. Mangotsfield School benefits from being part of a wider trust and partners with Downend School to deliver 16-19 opportunities for all students.

We can offer you:

  • Happy, engaging students who thrive on inspirational leadership
  • A supportive trust and school community
  • Strong collaboration across the trust family of schools and access to a centralised team of specialists across all areas of school operations
  • A commitment to high‑quality CPD, with dedicated time and budget for your development
  • A values‑driven ethos where diversity, equity and inclusion are lived every day
  • Recognition of continuous service (modification order) to protect employment rights and entitlements
  • Local Authority Pension Scheme with generous employer contributions and death‑in‑service cover
  • Occupational sick pay to support you during illness or unexpected emergencies

Everything at Mangotsfield School is based around its school
values driven by Headteacher, Hetty Blackmore. Having first
joined the school as a newly qualified teacher when she was
23 years old and returned to lead it later in her career, she is
very proud of the journey the school is on.

Mangotsfield School is proud to serve its community and has
been part of the local community since 1957. They have just
celebrated being rated as a ‘Good’ school by Ofsted (visit
March 2022).

There are wonderful resources and facilities on site, allowing
students to embrace curricular and extra-curricular
challenges from DT, art, dance, drama and a climbing wall to
name a few. There is a lot of open space, which is green and
calm. And this sense of calm is echoed in the school itself.
The school has a proud sporting history and teams have
travelled as far as Wembley to take part in national
competitions. The school is also on a mission to broaden
horizons with many co-curricular trips taking place, such as a
Year 7 trip to Slimbridge Wetlands for art research and a
Year 8 trip to Tyntesfield House to explore gothic horror
within the English curriculum.
