Subject Leader for Art job summary

Are you an enthusiastic leader, who is passionate about Art? Are you a creator desperate to share these skills and creative ideas with students? Are you a flexible and ambitious leader that wants to build and develop a subject area and work with talented and brilliant art staff? Do you have a drive for improving student outcomes and working alongside brilliant teachers in our Arts and Humanities Faculty?

We are seeking to appoint subject leader, and excellent classroom practitioner, who is an enthusiastic, innovative and engaging teacher of Art- to join a dynamic and expanding team at the Academy. This role will lead Art and Design - Fine Art developments across Key Stage 3 and 4 in particular, as well as playing a lead role in developing enrichment opportunities for our students in this subject area. Art is a part of the Arts and Humanities Faculty within a revised faculty structure which allows an opportunity to share practice, as well as working collectively to support each other in providing additional enrichment opportunities for students.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop, sustain, deliver and lead the Art curriculum across all Key Stages.
• Write, implement and deliver an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for students.
• Build on, review and develop existing assessment materials, to enable sustained positive progress and attainment in Art.
• Lead subject staff in developing an energetic and inspiring Art department, which motivates our students.
• Monitor and support the overall progress and development of students as a teacher and subject leader.
• Facilitate and encourage a learning experience which provides students with the opportunity to achieve their individual potential.
• Lead the subject area to achieve high and sustainable outcomes. Assess, monitor and direct subject interventions to maximise these outcomes.
• Share and support the Academy’s responsibility to provide and monitor opportunities for personal and academic growth.
• To work collaboratively with other subject areas/subject leads to build the status of the subject area.
• Support and maintain collaborative relationships with staff and external professionals.
• The successful candidate must hold QTS or equivalent and an honours degree in Art or related subject.

We welcome applications from teachers early in their careers through to experienced staff, although we require at least two years of teaching experience to apply for the role

There may be opportunities for the successful candidate with the right qualities and experience to apply for other roles within the faculty as these arise.

Our latest Ofsted inspection was undertaken in February 2026 and found us to be Strong Standard in two areas and Expected Standard in all others. There was significant praise for both academic opportunities and for our pastoral and safeguarding provisions.

You will have/show:

• Practical skills and expertise as outlined in the Job description.

• The ability and motivation to work with other leaders to drive forward Academy improvement.
• Experience of delivering Art at KS3,4 and 5.
• Confidence in dealing with students across different age ranges.
• The ability to teach A-Level courses offered in the department.
• The ability to teach Art and Design L2/3 BTEC is desirable.
• The ability to teach beyond the Art department is desirable.
• Enthusiasm to work towards enriching the lives of our students beyond subject specialism.
• The passion to enrich the lives of our students and contribute to the development of cultural capital to enhance the life opportunities for our students.
