Subject Leader, Music & Drama job summary

We look forward to receiving your application to become our next Head of Music and Drama.

This is an excellent opportunity for a talented and enthusiastic colleague to join the Middle Leadership Team at The Oxford Academy, a school on a rapid improvement journey where you will be able to make a significant difference to the lives of the children we serve. It is an exciting time to be joining the school and its team of expert and welcoming staff, enabling the successful candidate to be part of something special.

We are currently looking to appoint an experienced and ambitious teacher who will take the lead, supported by the Deputy Headteacher for Quality of Education and the wider Middle Leadership team, in making a profound and positive improvement in the outcomes of the young people at The Oxford Academy.  We are seeking a music specialist for this role, because of our current staffing needs, but would expect this leader to lead drama and deliver some drama lessons, particularly in KS3.

As an experienced teacher, you will need to have a proven track record of leading others and inspiring students, leading to improved standards and outcomes in Drama & Music at Key Stages 3, 4 and 5. You will also help develop an exciting curriculum and have the resolve to make a real difference to the lives of our young people.  You will build a culture where music and drama are celebrated in the school.

We are looking for an enthusiastic professional with the expertise and dedication to live out our values of ‘commitment to others, commitment to learning’. These commitments are central to our school, demonstrated by the strong, warm relationships, and a strong culture of learning for both students and staff. At the Oxford Academy, we make a profound and positive difference to everyone in our school. We work to meet the needs of all - whatever it takes.

We are therefore seeking a motivated, strategic and highly motivated professional with:

  • A proven track record of outstanding teaching and learning

  • A strong sense of moral purpose and social responsibility

  • The ambition, desire and resilience to maximise success for students and promote high expectations

In return, the successful candidate can expect:

  • To play a key role in an ambitious and improving school

  • Outstanding professional support at every stage of your career

  • A comprehensive Induction Programme

  • A supportive Senior Leadership Team

  • Opportunities to work in a dynamic and supportive team with excellent facilities

  • A positive student body who love learning

  • The opportunity to work in the beautiful city of Oxford, serving the communities of Littlemore, Blackbird Leys and Rose Hill

For an open conversation about the role and/or to arrange a visit prior to application, please contact Claire Woodhall on 01865 774311 or email recruitment@theoxfordacademy.org  to arrange a suitable time.

Closing date: 30/11/23 The Oxford Academy may hold interviews as and when applications are received, and this job may be withdrawn at any point without notice. With this in mind, you are encouraged to apply as early as possible.
