Subject Leader of History job summary

The University of Kent Academies Trust is seeking to appoint an exceptional and inspiring Subject Leader of History to join the thriving community at Chatham Grammar. This is a full-time, permanent position.

We are looking for a dynamic and forward-thinking professional with the passion, expertise and ambition to lead and shape an engaging History curriculum. The successful candidate will be an outstanding classroom practitioner who takes pride in delivering high-quality teaching and is driven to make a lasting impact through strong and effective subject leadership.

Experience teaching History at both GCSE and A-Level is essential, alongside a commitment to innovation and a clear vision for promoting the relevance and importance of Humanities in today’s world. The ideal candidate will inspire curiosity, critical thinking and a deep appreciation of the past, empowering students to understand their place in the modern global society.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a key subject area within a supportive and aspirational school, where enrichment, academic excellence and a love of learning are at the heart of everything we do.

Chatham Grammar (CG) is a selective girls’ academy for students aged 11-19, with a mixed sixth form, sponsored by the University of Kent. From September 2026, CG will begin its transition to a fully coeducational academy by welcoming boys into Year 7.
