Essential:
- A good Honours degree (in a subject relevant to the position)
- Qualified Teacher Status and evidence of completion of statutory induction
- Evidence of continuing professional development relevant to the post
- Proven track record of raising achievement and securing high achievement of students
- Successful experience of teaching the subject across Key Stage 3-4 in a state 11-16 or 11-18 school
- An excellent musician, accomplished in specialist instrument
- A reflective practitioner with a history of expertise in classroom pedagogy and the ability to improve outcomes for students
- Demonstrable experience of curriculum development and curriculum design improving outcomes
- A record of sharing good practice with other curriculum teams or schools
- Experience of undertaking performance management reviews with colleagues and supporting their professional development
- High-energy and passionate individual with a clear moral purpose which is driven by a desire to improve the life chances of young people.
- An emotionally intelligent colleague who can adapt to a range of situations and communicate with various stakeholders including students, parents and other colleagues and professionals.
- A team player who is comfortable in both providing and responding to professional challenge.
- An ability to inspire and relate well to the whole community.
- Outgoing and enthusiastic with a positive “can-do” attitude and a solution-focused approach.
- A sense of humour
Desirable:
- A higher degree or management qualification
- A record of excellence in leadership of large teams, including staff development which builds and sustains teachers’ practice
- Experience of dealing effectively with the under-performance of teachers
- Experience of leading staff and responsibility for outcomes of a cohort of students beyond own classroom
- Successful teaching experience at A-level
- Evidence of further leadership development
- Experience of working across a range of school environments
- Experience of involvement in successful Ofsted inspections
- Experience of leading school trips and a commitment to the encouraging of extra-curricular activities
- Ability to travel independently between locations during the working day, as required

About the Post
We are looking to appoint an exceptional and inspirational Subject Leader of Music (Academic) to join our highly successful Music department. This is a very rare and exciting opportunity to join an already high-performing subject area and to support the vision for excellence.
This post would suit an inspirational colleague looking to join an exceptional music department, working in conjunction with the Subject Leader of Music (Extra-Curricular) to drive the department forward, providing world class opportunities for our students. The opportunity to be part of the team which works across two schools and two different contexts offer unrivalled career development for an aspirational colleague.
About the School and Music Department
The Twynham TGS music department has an outstanding reputation in the local community and has recently been appointed as one of the Lead Schools in BCP for the local music hub. The music department is an integral part of the school and a key player in the Twynham Learning Trust.
- At Twynham School, the department is equipped with four large classrooms, including two Mac suites, running Logic Pro X, four practice rooms, a recording studio and performing spaces on site. At TGS, there are two classrooms including a Mac suite and four practice rooms.
- There are currently 65 students taking GCSE music as well as 20 students taking A-Level Music and Music Technology.
- There are 14 clubs and rehearsals that run each week, led by our four fantastic music teachers and our peripatetic staff. We perform an annual musical production in partnership with the Performing Arts department.
- Twynham School runs a music scholarship for 50 of our strongest musicians, providing free instrument lessons, instrument hire and a wide range of performing opportunities. 180 students have instrument and singing lessons each week.
- TGS is a MiSST school, providing a free classical instrument and specialist tuition for every student in Key Stage 3, as well as incredible performing opportunities in world-renowned venues.
- Students from Twynham TGS perform at more than 25 school concerts, events and showcases each year and have a fantastic reputation in the local community. Our Christmas concert and recitals are held at the Christchurch Priory, we take part in several local music competitions and jazz band and others regularly perform at local events e.g. Christchurch food festival, proms on the bandstand, busking at Christmas.
