Subject Teacher - Design & Technology job summary
Design and Technology teacher - the role
We are seeking an enthusiastic, organised and student focused Teacher of Design and Technology, including Food Technology, to join our highly successful department. Flexible working and job‑share opportunities will be considered for the right candidate(s).
As a Teacher of Design and Technology, specialisms to include Food and Resistant Materials, you will deliver challenging, inclusive lessons that secure the progress of all learners.
We strive to inspire students through rigorous design and make activities that encourage the pupils to use their imagination and creativity, solving real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. This allows us to teach a varied and creative curriculum which is in line with the National curriculum and the GCSE Specifications. The faculty has its own computer suite, and the workshops are equipped with a combination of traditional tools, laser and digital technology.
All students at Deer Park follow a modular programme in Design Technology in Key Stage 3 and a large proportion of our pupils choose to pursue a Design subject in Key Stage 4. Students in Key Stage 3 have 4 hours a fortnight of Design Technology (two double lessons) and this ensures they could gain experience in each of the disciplines within the faculty. These 6-8-week modules encourage creativity and innovation and are designed to impart knowledge and skills through a practical hands-on approach. Students gain inspiration from different cultures and thought is given to the sustainability of the materials that they use.
We are committed to inspiring students through high-quality design-and-make activities that develop imagination, creativity, and independent problem-solving. Students are challenged to tackle real-world and relevant design problems across a range of contexts, while considering their own needs and those of others. This approach supports the delivery of a broad and engaging curriculum that is fully aligned with the National Curriculum and GCSE specifications. The faculty is well resourced, with a dedicated computer suite and workshops equipped with a balance of traditional tools alongside laser and digital technologies.
