What the school offers its staff
Ethos of the department:
Sociology is part of Social Sciences which also includes Psychology, Criminology and Health and Social Care forming the largest student cohort at the college. The ideal candidate will be able to deliver inspiring lessons, bring knowledge and experience to the curriculum and have a desire to teach beyond the specification believing every student can succeed.
They should have an appreciation that the commitment to delivering outstanding educational outcomes goes beyond the classroom. Sociology is taught by passionate and committed professionals keen to enrich the lives of young people and inspire the next generation of students who either use the subject as part of their broader study programme or would like to take the study of this subject beyond college. Trips, workshop experiences and visiting professionals are commonplace. Sociology regularly organise trips such as the Women of the World Conference. They work very closely with other social science subjects such as Criminology and together they support one another through the sharing of good practice or use of resources.
We are looking for like minded individuals keen to play their part in enriching the lives of young people whilst contributing their own unique skills, knowledge and experiences to the team ethos. The large nature of student numbers in these subjects means that flexibility to teach beyond one specialism is highly sought after with opportunities of diversifying ones teaching regularly occurring across our social science subjects.
Commitment to safeguarding
The Prospect Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and young people within our care and requires all staff and volunteers to share and demonstrate this commitment. The job description fully sets out the safeguarding responsibilities of the post. Any future offer of employment remains subject to satisfactory pre-employment checks, including enhanced DBS clearance, a health check and references.
