About the Internship
St Mary’s College is offering paid summer internships for undergraduates and Masters students interested in becoming secondary school teachers in key shortage subjects. This programme provides hands-on classroom experience, mentoring, and training to help you decide whether teaching is the right career for you. What You’ll Do
- Support teachers in lessons, registration and enrichment activities.
- Offer additional subject support to pupils who need it most
- Observe, plan and teach parts of lessons with training and mentoring.
- Develop your understanding of teaching pedagogy and pastoral care.
- Work closely with experienced staff and build professional relationships.
- Keep a reflective learning journal and attend training sessions.
- Uphold high standards of professionalism and safeguarding.
Who We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Undergraduate (2nd, 3rd, final year) or Masters student in a relevant subject.
- Strong knowledge and qualifications in Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Modern Foreign Languages, Computing, Design Technology, Religious Education or similar.
- Strong communication skills and a genuine demonstrable interest in teaching in UK secondary schools.
- Not previously completed a teaching internship programme.
Desirable:
- Experience working with young people or in team settings.
