Supported Internship Class Teacher 16 to 19 job summary

We are looking for a dynamic Post 16 Teacher to join an exciting and innovative school. Phoenix is a well-established Outstanding (Ofsted Nov 2018) special school for pupils with severe language and communication difficulties including autism. The School offers a unique service to the children of Tower Hamlets. The school has a multi-ethnic population, which reflects the diversity of the borough. Phoenix has two sites, Phoenix School and Phoenix Upper School. The two sites cover the age range 3-12 and 12-19 respectively. In January 2021 Upper School site was completed and offers students a wonderful learning environment, which is reflected in the curriculum.

The position would suit energetic and creative professionals who are looking to make a difference to the lives of young people with autism and complex needs as well as furthering their own professional development. Experience of working in a special school is not essential but knowledge and expertise of SEN and Post 16 is required.
We are an award winning school and accredited through the National Autistic Society; praised for our creative approach to working with children with autism. Phoenix was awarded a commendation for its excellent work across the school.

We are looking to appoint a Supported Internship Class Teacher who will work:

• To determine the student’s strengths, interests, and abilities related to skill acquisition and establish projects within the school environment and seek appropriate community job sites
• To develop a curriculum, for students aged 16 to 19, that encompasses pre-employment key skills that are needed to support the students in job development
• To lead and manage a team who can support the students in pre- employment skills and work placements
• To refer to appropriate community support services for training and successful Supported Internship or Apprenticeship programmes.
• To work with local business and industry to meet their employment needs.

The school has excellent facilities and resources to support teaching and learning. There is a comprehensive induction and training programme for new and existing staff. This is an exciting opportunity in a school providing for children and young people, where change and challenge are key to what we do.
