Targeted Teaching Assistant (Maternity Cover - 1 Year) job summary

Term Time Only - 38 Weeks - 32.5 hours working week.

Working under guidance from teaching and senior staff, provide support to enable access to learning for pupils and help to overcome presenting barriers.

Work may be carried out in the classroom or outside the main teaching areas.

The jobholder is one of a team of teachers and assistants who support the learning of pupils. Flexibility by all staff is important in order to meet the varied needs of pupils.

  • Develop a secure knowledge of the learning support needs of individual pupils.

  • Provide the necessary adaptation and support to ensure the pupils can access learning and mitigate for the identified barriers to learning.

  • Assist with the implementation of support plans, monitoring the effectiveness and providing records of progress. Plan and evaluate specialist learning activities with the teacher, maintaining records as required.

  • Establish and maintain positive and productive working relationships with pupils, and interact with them according to their individual needs.

  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils.

  • Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher.

  • Set challenging and demanding expectations and promote self-esteem and independence.

  • Provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement under guidance of the teacher.
