What skills and experience we're looking for

Key responsibilities

  • Lead teaching and learning for the Nursery & Reception cohort on Fridays, using our agreed curriculum and pedagogy.
  • Plan and deliver high-quality, well-sequenced learning that supports early language, phonics, communication and personal development.
  • Assess pupils’ progress and contribute to the ongoing formative assessment and record-keeping systems.
  • Work collaboratively with the job-share partner and EYFS team to ensure continuity between days and across the federation.
  • Promote the school’s vision and values in classroom practice and relationships.
  • Contribute to safeguarding, welfare and pastoral support as required; maintain high standards of behaviour and wellbeing.
  • Attend required meetings and professional development (some meetings may be scheduled outside Fridays — reasonable notice will be provided and time in lieu considered).

Person specification (essential)

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Recent experience teaching in Early Years (Nursery/Reception) — planning and delivering EYFS curriculum, including early phonics and language development.
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding responsibilities and a commitment to pupil welfare.
  • Ability to plan for mixed-age groups and differentiate effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; a collaborative team player.
  • Reflective practitioner committed to professional development.
  • Commitment to the school’s inclusive practice for disadvantaged and SEND pupils.

Desirable

  • Experience working in a small rural school or federated setting.
  • Experience of or willingness to lead an area of the EYFS curriculum (e.g., communication and language, early maths or outdoor learning).
  • Understanding of the current Ofsted framework and early years expectations.

  • Contract: Fixed-term, 1 year (0.2 FTE — Fridays) - this is likely to be extended.
  • Start date: September 2026 (or earlier by arrangement).
  • Location: Linton on Ouse Primary School & Nursery (part of the Small Schools Federation).

Linton on Ouse Primary & Nursery is a small, warm village school of three classes and a member of the Small Schools Federation. We aim to create a safe and happy environment where pupils and adults can flourish. Pupil Premium is c.20%, EAL is low and SEND needs are broadly in line; we work closely across our federation to secure excellent outcomes for every child.


The role We are seeking an enthusiastic, reflective and enthusiastic class teacher to join us as a 0.2 FTE job-share, working Fridays in our mixed Nursery and Reception class. This is an excellent role for someone who wants a focused weekly day in early years practice within a supportive small-school setting. There would also be the expectation to engage with staff training and certain training days plus some staff meetings.
