Teacher Art & Design job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic, creative and dedicated Teacher of Art and Design to join our dynamic faculty. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality lessons that inspire learners across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5, helping them develop their artistic skills, creative confidence and appreciation of the visual arts.

From guiding Year 7 learners through their first explorations of drawing, painting and mixed media to supporting GCSE and A-Level learners in developing ambitious portfolios and individual artistic styles, your impact will be lasting and meaningful.

We are looking for a teacher who can bring art to life in the classroom, encourage learners to experiment with different techniques and materials, and help them understand how artists and designers throughout history have shaped the world around us.

About the Art and Design Faculty

Art and Design plays a vital role in our curriculum, encouraging creativity, independence, resilience and critical thinking. Through practical exploration and the study of artists, designers and movements, learners develop the skills and confidence to express their ideas and interpret the world in new ways.

KS3: Learners explore a broad and engaging curriculum, developing essential skills in drawing, painting, colour theory, printmaking, sculpture and mixed media. They investigate the work of established and contemporary artists, experiment with materials and techniques, and learn how to develop their own ideas from initial inspiration to finished outcomes.

GCSE: Learners build their technical skills, explore a range of artistic approaches and develop personal responses to creative themes. Through research, experimentation, refinement and final outcomes, they learn to analyse the work of artists and designers while producing thoughtful, individual portfolios that demonstrate their progress and creativity.

A-Level: Learners develop greater independence, technical expertise and critical understanding as they explore personal themes and creative concepts. They refine their artistic practice, investigate contextual influences and produce ambitious portfolios that prepare them for further study, higher education and careers across the creative industries.

What Can You Offer Us?

We are looking for an inspirational Art and Design teacher who will:

✔ Deliver engaging, practical and thought-provoking lessons that encourage experimentation, curiosity and a willingness to take creative risks.

✔ Demonstrate strong subject knowledge across a range of artistic disciplines, including drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture and mixed media.

✔ Introduce learners to a diverse range of artists, designers, cultures and artistic movements, helping them make meaningful connections between art, society and the world around them.

✔ Support learners in achieving excellent progress by developing their technical skills, visual literacy, analytical thinking and confidence in presenting their own ideas.

✔ Use innovative teaching strategies and technology to make learning accessible, relevant and exciting.

✔ Create an inclusive, stimulating and well-organised learning environment where learners feel confident to experiment, learn from mistakes and take pride in their work.

✔ Work collaboratively with colleagues to develop the curriculum, share best practice and contribute to cross-curricular projects and wider school life.

✔ Contribute to extracurricular opportunities such as art clubs, exhibitions, competitions, creative workshops and collaborative projects that celebrate learners' talents.

What Can We Offer You?

A passionate and collaborative team committed to creativity, high-quality teaching and academic excellence.

A broad and engaging curriculum that encourages learners to explore artistic techniques, develop their own ideas and appreciate the work of others.

Enthusiastic learners who can be inspired to think differently, challenge conventions and discover their creative potential.
