Pay Scale: MPS / UPS (plus SEN Point)

Location: Springwell Special Academy, Barnsley

Are you an inspirational educator with the resilience, creativity and empathy to transform young lives?

Springwell Special Academy is seeking a dedicated Classroom Teacher to join our supportive team and deliver a dynamic, nurture focused curriculum for pupils with SEMH needs.

Springwell Learning Community is the umbrella name for Springwell Special Academy and Springwell Alternative Academy. Springwell Special Academy provides cross-phase education for Barnsley children with social, emotional and mental health difficulties (SEMH). Our school is proud to offer a supportive team, high-quality personalised training, and an opportunity to work with utterly fabulous children as outlined in our values: KINDNESS - COURAGE - CURIOSITY - PRIDE.

Importantly, you will embrace the ethos of the Special Provision Partnership supporting the progress and inclusion of all pupils, demonstrating Academy values including unconditional positive regard. In this role, you will plan and deliver high-quality, inclusive core and thematic lessons for groups of approximately 10 pupils within a designated key stage. You will pay equal attention to academic and personal progress, consider pupils' aspirations, and work closely with a supportive multi-disciplinary team to remove barriers to learning and support pupil development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lesson Planning & Delivery: Develop tailored core and thematic learning programs, adapting standard curriculum for individual needs using specialist resources (e.g., technology or sensory tools).

  • Individual & Group Teaching: Deliver nurture-focused, evidence-based instruction to groups of ~10 pupils, providing targeted 1:1 and small group support.

  • Multi-Disciplinary Collaboration: Work alongside SLT, speech therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, and social workers to remove barriers to learning.

  • Assessment & Progress Tracking: Systematically record progress, analyze pupil data, write reports, and engage parents/carers in learning goals.

  • Behaviour & Pastoral Leadership: Use unconditional positive regard and restorative practice to build self-regulation, coping strategies, and constructive behavior management.

  • Staff Mentoring & CPD: Contribute to professional development initiatives and train/mentor staff on SEN and inclusive pedagogy.

Requirements
  • Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS / QTLS) (Essential); advanced SEN qualification (Desirable).

  • Experience: Proven experience teaching SEN/SEMH pupils, adapting curricula, and working within multi-disciplinary teams to remove learning barriers.

  • Knowledge: Understanding of SEND and relevant legislation, inclusive pedagogies, learning styles, and proactive behaviour management strategies.

  • Core Skills: Strong personal resilience, innovative thinking, initiative, and great written/verbal communication skills.

This position would suit individuals who come with creativity and resilience, passionate about making a real difference to students’ life chances and supporting them in achieving their academic and personal potential.
