Great Yarmouth Primary Academy is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, positive, committed, and ambitious Teacher for our new Enhanced Provision for pupils with complex needs in Key Stage 1. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the development of a new provision within the school, supporting pupils with communication and sensory needs and to have a significant and lasting impact on outcomes for children.


The successful candidate will have a strong interest in inclusive practice, a commitment to meeting the needs of pupils with complex learning needs and a passion for being part of a school that is ambitious for its students and community.


What You’ll Be Doing

  • Plan, deliver, and adapt learning for pupils with complex communication and sensory needs, ensuring a highly personalised approach.
  • Create a structured, nurturing, and stimulating environment that supports engagement, regulation, and learning.
  • Assess, record, track, and report on pupil progress in line with EHCP outcomes and individual learning goals.
  • Use a range of strategies, approaches, and resources (e.g. visual supports, sensory integration, communication systems such as AAC/PECS) to enable access to learning.
  • Work closely with teaching assistants and other professionals to ensure a consistent and effective approach for all pupils.
  • Support the development of communication, independence, social interaction and emotional regulation.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the Enhanced Provision, helping to shape practice and provision within the school.
  • Work collaboratively with external agencies, therapists and families to ensure holistic support for each child.
  • Promote pupil well-being, engagement, and participation in school life.
  • Uphold the school’s ethos, values and commitment to inclusive education, playing a full role in the wider school community.
  • Engage actively in professional development and training relating to SEND and complex needs.


About You

The successful candidate will be patient, nurturing, and highly adaptable, with a genuine passion for supporting pupils with complex needs. You will have strong communication skills and a good understanding of how children with communication and sensory differences learn best. You will be creative in your approach, resilient in your practice and committed to achieving the very best outcomes for every child.


You will act as a positive role model, foster a calm and supportive environment and be committed to your own professional learning and development, particularly in the area of SEND and inclusive practice.


Essential:

  • An appropriate degree and other qualifications required for the award of QTS.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (trainees should be on track to achieve QTS before taking up the post).
  • Knowledge of the statutory requirements concerning Equal Opportunities, Health & Safety, SEND and Child Protection
  • Ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and the wider community.
  • Experience of teaching the relevant phase in a primary school.
  • Knowledge of effective teaching and learning strategies, including the ability to provide for individual student needs.
  • Experience of the monitoring, assessment, recording and reporting of pupils’ progress.


Desirable:

  • Master’s Degree or other advanced qualifications.
  • Experience teaching a knowledge-rich curriculum.
  • Experience teaching across the whole primary age range and working in partnership with parents.
  • Experience of working with complex needs pupils
  • ReadWriteInc training or experience.
  • Advanced qualifications or experience in behaviour management, pedagogy, EAL, or SEND.
