Essential Experience
- Experience of working with children with a wide range of special educational needs
- Ability to plan, implement and evaluate individual teaching programmes for children with special educational needs
- Ability to motivate, manage and develop staff
Desirable Experience
- A wide knowledge of the continuum of need at all age levels
- Ability to teach autism specific approaches
- Knowledge of AAC/Makaton and other communication approaches
- Experience and knowledge of a range of qualifications and accreditation.

The Headteacher and Governing Body are looking to appoint a talented and enthusiastic Teacher to join our school in a permanent position from 1 September 2025 or as soon as possible.
The successful candidate will be allocated a class in the 2025/26 academic year and may be expected to work across the school age groups in future years.
Hillside caters for 115 pupils aged 4-19 with autism and a wide range of associated complex needs. We invite applications from excellent classroom practitioners who can deliver a full, personalised curriculum. Applications are welcomed from teachers with experience of teaching pupils with autism and additional needs. The successful candidate will have knowledge of child development and a detailed understanding of autism specific interventions and teaching strategies.
The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate effective skills in leading a team of Teaching Assistants to provide a meaningful, motivating, and memorable learning experience for all pupils; provide excellent care, including personal care, for all pupils within their class. They must have a good understanding of autism specific de-escalation techniques and be committed to undertaking Teach Teach training as part of the role.
The candidate must demonstrate a commitment to inclusion and working in partnership with all stakeholders.
