Teaching is the most rewarding job in the world. We have the opportunity to change students’ lives for the better and you could make a positive impact at St Peter’s School.
We are a forward thinking and rapidly improving, “good” school that is creating a legacy of learning for our community. Our students Learn, Aspire and Exceed as they work with our highly skilled teaching and associate staff supporting and guiding them.
St Peter’s is part of The Cam Academy Trust which offers students and staff fantastic potential to collaborate, share and develop a wide range of teaching and learning across the schools in the trust. As a family of schools, we support, share and challenge each other to improve the future lives of all our young people.
St Peter’s inclusion provision has a good reputation within The Cam Academy Trust and the local area. Our inclusion offer includes our KS3 Nurture provision and STRIVE, our internal alternative provision. This role sits across both.
Our KS3 Nurture provision has been established for 10 years. The Nurture department consists of 5 dedicated teachers leading the curriculum with experience in developing numeracy and literacy. There is a tailored curriculum based on improving students’ basic skills to an age-appropriate level so that they can successfully integrate into secondary school life. The Nurture teachers utilise a wide range of teaching strategies, using an adapted primary model, to improve engagement with education for the students. Class sizes are capped at 17 at a maximum but on average consist of 14 students or fewer.
STRIVE is our internal alternative provision for students in Years 8-11 who display challenging behaviour and are unable to be successful in mainstream education; some students also have SEND needs or an EHCP. Students study English, Maths, Science and Humanities, with those in Years 10 and 11 working towards GCSE qualifications, alongside an enrichment programme that includes AQA Unit Award Scheme certificates. STRIVE takes a broadly restorative approach built on its ethos of Support, Trust, Respect, Invest, Value and Educate, with clear routines, consistent expectations and positive relationships at its heart. Where appropriate, students are supported to reintegrate into mainstream lessons.
The suitable candidate will either be:
an experienced practitioner with SEND or primary experience
an ECT with an in interest in SEND, numeracy and literacy
St Peter’s prides itself in the professional development available to staff, we have had a number of staff complete a wide range of courses including: NPQML, and training with exam board providers as well as in house training.
We are based in Huntingdon, just 12 miles north of Cambridge with its own mainline station connecting with London in less than an hour.
For the right candidate, we are able to offer the opportunity to teach lessons across the age and ability range of our students.
