What skills and experience we're looking for

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic and well qualified Business Studies teacher who is passionate about their subject and dedicated to ensuring all students are encouraged and motivated to achieve their potential. Business Studies is a popular subject at both KS4 and KS5, playing an important role in the success of Caldew School, ensuring that standards of teaching and learning are achieved by all students working within the subject. There may also be the opportunity to teach KS3 classes.

We have developed an engaging, challenging and comprehensive curriculum, looking at the types of businesses and business models; the role of marketing; management; the role of digital technologies and finances, with local, national and global examples. We teach EdExcel Business Studies at GCSE and AQA Business Studies at AS/A Level.

This is an exciting opportunity for both Early Career Teachers and experienced practitioners. We are looking for someone with strong subject knowledge, a commitment to high-quality teaching, and a desire to continually develop their practice. We offer an excellent opportunity to receive support through the school’s comprehensive ECT and CPD programme.

At Caldew School, we are proud of our improving outcomes and positive academic record. We are committed to building on this success through a relentless focus on high expectations, curriculum coherence and adaptive teaching. As a Teacher of Business Studies, you will contribute to this work, ensuring consistency of practice and high standards in your classroom.

We will consider applications for both full and part-time. Please note this in your application.

Caldew School is a popular, rural 11-18 mixed comprehensive school situated south of the city of Carlisle with a catchment area that extends to the fringe of the Lake District. We have 1000 pupils on roll including a Sixth Form of 160. The school is heavily over-subscribed and the roll is steady. We have a good and improving track record of achievement at all examination levels, good resources and facilities and a rich programme of visits and extra-curricular activities. This is an exciting time to join Caldew School. We have had a significant investment from the Story Group of companies that is enabling us to improve our facilities, provide high quality professional development for our staff and give our students opportunities, experiences and support that will raise their aspirations and achievement. Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people in everyone's responsibility at Caldew School and we take this very seriously. We adopt an approach which is child-centred. This means that all staff at Caldew School consider, at all times, what is in our students' best interests. The Safeguarding Team work within the school to ensure that all of our students are safe, happy and thriving. All staff have a duty of care to make sure students are safe and this means that information may need to be shared with other agencies and organisations to make sure that our students and their families get the best possible support. Our Ofsted inspection in June 2022 graded Caldew as ‘good’. However, we are not complacent and we know that there are areas where we need to do better.
