Teacher of Business Studies - September 2020 Permanent, Full-Time position MPS to UPS with additional London Fringe Allowance Sandhurst School is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and well-qualified Teacher of Business Studies, to teach across all Key Stages at a comprehensive school with over a 1,100 students on roll. In November 2017, Ofsted reported that: “The Headteacher, leaders and governors are committed to improving pupils’ life chances” “Pupils’ conduct is typically good and they treat one another with respect” “Pupils feel safe and are kept safe” “Pupils are well looked after and are provided with the opportunity to succeed” “Strong relationships exist between staff and pupils” We are seeking a highly skilled teacher to help build upon the success that the Business and Enterprise Department has experienced in recent years. Business is taught successfully to Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 with a variety of academic and vocational options available to students. We endeavour to make the subject interesting and accessible for all students, with a wide variety of teaching strategies and techniques used to ensure student engagement. A strong emphasis on deep subject knowledge in addition to regular and routine exam practice has allowed for successful outcomes for Business students in recent years. Business students are confident and well prepared for external examinations; they know what they need to do in order to improve. GCSE Business in particular is a popular option subject for Year 9 students and the department has grown significantly as a result. The successful candidate would have the opportunity to expand upon this growth with the potential option of introducing economics and/or accounting as new subjects to the school. The successful candidate will work in a fully resourced department with its own dedicated teaching room and office as well as a full set of existing teaching resources available on the school’s shared Google Drive. This is a great opportunity to work in a supportive school setting and alongside a dedicated team of staff. The courses offered within the department are as follows: Course and Exam Board: GCSE Business - Edexcel Current Number in Sets: 3 in Year 10 and 3 in Year 11 Typical Set Size: 25-30 students Total Timetables Lessons: 5 per 2 week cycle Most Recent Outcomes: SPI - +0.47, 61% on or above target. Average grade = 4+ Course and Exam Board: BTEC Level 2 Tech Award in Enterprise - Edexcel Current Number in Sets: 1 in Year 10 and 2 in Year 11 Typical Set Size: 15-20 students Total Timetables Lessons: 5 per 2 week cycle Most Recent Outcomes: N/A (New course, awaiting first results in 2020) Course and Exam Board: A Level Business - AQA Current Number in Sets: 1 in Year 12 and 1 in Year 13 Typical Set Size: 5-8 students Total Timetables Lessons: 8 per 2 week cycle Most Recent Outcomes: 100% A-C Average grade = B The successful candidate will show: - Teaching skills - A commitment to helping raise student achievement - Effective approaches to teaching & learning - Good team-working skills This vacancy offers an exciting opportunity to join a friendly, supportive, forward-thinking and successful department with a reputation for excellent practice and good examination results.
