Teacher of Computer Science job summary

Thank you for your interest in joining The King’s (The Cathedral) School at this exciting time and to teach a subject which is of such importance.

The King’s (The Cathedral) School enjoys a very strong reputation both within the city and the local region. As one of a small number of state schools with close links to their local Cathedral, our distinct Christian culture lies at the heart of the School. We are a single academy Trust, located close to the city centre of Peterborough, educating students from the age of seven to eighteen.

We are rightly proud of our student’s academic achievements (progress is typically in the top 5% nationally for GCSE) but the educational philosophy at the School is far broader with students encouraged to take part in a wide range of extra-curricular activities including Sport, Music and Duke of Edinburgh.

As a teacher, you will work closely with our experienced Head of Department to ensure that students enjoy the subject and achieve excellent outcomes at all levels.

You will benefit from teaching within a team where Computer Science is enjoyed through to A-Level by our students. You will join us at a perfect time where we have invested significantly into our IT provision. This year alone we have installed a brand new network, provided laptops for all our teachers and installed SMART boards in every classroom. We are a Microsoft School and students are becoming increasingly used to this suite of products.

The subject is taught at GCSE and A-Level with a track record of academic success. You will ensure that this record continues along with an active engagement in further growing numbers. We follow the OCR examination board for both GCSE and A-Level. Our numbers studying Computer Science at both levels are strong and growing as students fully understand the significance of this subject. We benefit greatly from students who are well behaved and mature; they are aspirational in their aims and many graduate to study the subject at university and beyond.

A key aspect of the role will be ensuring that students benefit from a full extra-curricular provision, which may include regular lunchtime clubs and after school provision.

This post is both suitable for an Early Careers Teacher who would receive high quality mentoring or support or for a more experienced colleague who wishes to teach within our community.
